Qualification Criteria IISA Team GB
1. For World Championships, swimmers times will be ranked against swimmers recorded on the IISA website , For Europeans Championships, swimmers will be ranked against other Europeans only.
2. For top three rankings there would be an a guaranteed place on the team. Exceptions to the top three rankings rule are the following:
a. The board will have the right to refuse any swimmer even if they rank in the top three if their past behaviour does not align with the IISA GB Code of Conduct.
b. Where there are more swimmers than places using a top three ranking, the board will prioritise swimmers with higher medal potential.
c. Where there are less than three records, swimmers will not be guaranteed a place, but will be considered.
3. For top four and five, they will also be considered for the team.
4. These rankings will be taken within the expected age group of the swimmer in 2026 and would look at their times over the last three years (2023, 2024,2025).
5. Preferably times are taken at official IISA events with temperatures below 5 degrees.
6. Non-IISA events will not guarantee a place, but will be taken into consideration.
7. Once selected for the team swimmers will only be able to able to enter distances in which they have achieved a time within the top 5 swimmers.
8. Swimmers may only enter five events initially. If a swimmer would like to enter more than 5 events, they need to put a case to the board that their performance or health would not be affected by taking on more events.
9. Due to having insufficient historic data for junior swimmers, it was suggested they should use the event records for the 18-24 Age group.
10. There will always be a few wild cards allowed for exceptional swimmers that do not have a history of ice swimming, but have good medal potential. E.g. Olympians and juniors at national level. Preferably they would come to the GB Champs but if not proof of swimming in the cold water would be required.
